  • I am not a Registered Dietician.
  • I am not a medical professional. 
  • It is not within my scope of practice to work with disordered eating (e.g. bulimia, anorexia). 
  • It is not telling you what to eat. 
  • It is not a restrictive eating process (quite the opposite). 
  • This is not diagnosing an illness (also out of my scope). 
  • It is not giving you a minute-by-minute meal plan, unless you are a highly advanced athlete.

Welcome!  I bet you’re looking at this page because either you’re curious about what this whole nutritional coaching business is about, or you’ve decided to make a change and you need help.  The good news is I’m here to answer any questions you might have and to talk further with you to see if we might be a good fit for working together.

WHAT IT IS:

  • It is the unique opportunity to have a collaborator alongside you to assist in learning to make lasting, real change to the behaviors that drive you to make the food and eating choices you do. 
  • It is a marathon, not a sprint.  This process requires patience and self-introspection and can be slow and painful at times.  Perseverance is the name of the game.
  • It is about meeting you where you are at and helping you to identify then meet your goals. 
  • It is gathering data; learning about you, your interests, and background to come up with a flexible and evolving plan of action broken down into small, attainable actions.
  • It is learning to eat wide varieties and colors of foods.
  • It is a very personal process and as such, I take the upmost care to value and honor your relationship with food.

Additionally, nutritional coaching is working alongside and with your medical professionals such as physical therapists, your primary care physician or specialists to ensure you are receiving the most holistic approach your health and wellness.

MACROS, CALORIES, AND HAND-SIZED PORTIONS
Do I use them? I do when it’s appropriate.  Macros and calorie counts are part of a sound scientific and trackable data collection process.  Macros are very specific and much easier to track when it is important to track every crumb that goes in your mouth.  I prefer this method when it’s appropriate.  Calories are something I use as a part of the data I track but not something I specifically set, again, unless it’s appropriate.  Once we meet and go through the Initial Intake and Triage form together in our first official meeting, we determine what approach is appropriate.  As this process is flexible and ever-changing, we might start off with one approach and move to another, depending again, on what is appropriate for you at that time.
